Well it is that time again to begin the planning for the 2013 Earth Day Celebration and Stash the Trash.  Every year it becomes more obvious that the world is changing.  Climate change has changed the climate in our area, caused more super storms and the rising tides of the oceans and our own Hudson River cannot be ignored.  Flood levels are changing yearly to the point that every community must rethink their building on or near waterfronts.

The tentative date for the Greater Ossining Earth Day/ Stash the Trash 2013 is April 20, 2013 with a rain date of April 27, 2013. The hours of operation 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM

We need to work together for the sake of ourselves but more importantly our children, and grandchildren.

Come join a group of enthusiastic pro active people as we plan and execute a day to remember of learning, food, fun and music.

We are very excited about how the day of service to the community, education, fun, sharing the joy of music of our children, crafts, food is coming together.

The Ossining Schools are in the process of a poster contest.  They choose the class, they will vote on the posters and the Town Board will honor the students at a meeting (watch for details).  We are looking to have this done by the beginning of March so that the winning poster will be the center of our advertising for this annual community oriented day.

We have so much to talk about at the next meeting.  We still are brain storming but many activities are already being planned and we thank those who have stepped forward to be part of this day.

There will be two tours of the Ossining Water Plant — 10: 00 AM and 12:00 PM (noon)

We will be advertizing this and taking reservations as the first tour starts before the actual celebration begins.  We will discuss the logistics at the Feb 21 st meeting.

There will be a third tour that has been set aside for a conference of science teachers that will be at a daily conference the Ossining Schools will be hosting on April 20th.

Many environmental educational vendors have shown in interest in the day.  We are very interested in having “vendors” at the fair who want to share new ideas opportunities and items of interest.

Just a couple of items that will be at the celebration:

  • We will have the sports equipment swap.
  • We will collect electronic equipment, batteries and light bulbs.
  • RiverKepper has committed to being part of the festivities.
  • We will concentrate on children performances rounded out with sea chanteys, Irish music and quiet music on the main stage.
  • We will have a second stage with skill training such as how to build a rain barrel, puppet shows, children’s programs.

Contact your friends who have special skills, crafts, and/or food that would like to be a vendor at the celebration.

Work with the organizations you are affiliated with to create Stash the Trash teams. We really need to clean up this community after Super Storm Sandy and this very harsh winter.

Some of the ideas are:
