Release of NYS Climate Action Plan Interim Report

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

Governor David A. Paterson has set a goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions in New York State by 80 percent below levels emitted in year 1990, by year 2050. He directed the New York State Climate Action Council to identify actions that can achieve that goal, adapt New York to the effects of unavoidable climate change and stimulate the growth of a clean energy economy.

Green Ossining Committee Meeting

The next meeting will be held on Thursday, November 18th at 7:30pm in the Ossining Operations Center’s 1st floor conference room.

The meeting will focus on the Initial Recommendations for the Transportation sector and the Detailed Recommendations for the Energy sector of the climate action plan as well as discussion of Green Committee initiatives for 2011.

REGIONAL APPROACHES TO CONSERVATION

This year’s theme is “Regional Approaches to Conservation” in New York. The program that is being specially designed promises to be both informative and inspirational. Learn how local environmental commissions can join forces with each other and with nonprofits and government agencies to strengthen their effectiveness. Share lessons learned and meet new colleagues. The meeting will be held at the beautiful Thayer Hotel at the United States Military Academy at West Point, a national historic treasure. The Conference plenary speakers are Frances Dunwell, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, who will discuss “The Hudson River Estuary as a Regional Approach to Conservation;” Paul Gallay of RiverKeeper, who will talk about “Non-profit Advocacy Groups in Regional Partnerships”; and Edwin McGowan of the Palisades Interstate Park, who will speak on “The Ecology of the Hudson Highlands.”
